Fresh Ingredients Always At Wholesome.
Wholesome Pies and Wholesome Kitchen are ready to draw in customers with their fresh ingredients, amazing ambiance, and friendly staff. Proprietor Michael Collins, best known for places like The Fish in Midtown and downtown’s Bovine & Barley, has brought two new amazing restaurants to the local Houston area. Located in the Generation Park mixed-use complex, Wholesome Pies and Wholesome Kitchen are ready to draw in customers with their fresh ingredients, amazing ambiance, and friendly staff.
Wholesome Pies is not your average Houston area pizza joint, it’s so much more. Wholesome Pies turns out Neapolitan style pies: both traditional options, such as margherita and pepperoni, and more fusion-style, like an elotes pie with roasted corn and queso fresco. Regardless of toppings, a flavorful crust with good char anchors the pie.
Wholesome Kitchen’s menu touches on a number of recent trends. Appetizer options include beet hummus, chargrilled oysters, and meatballs. Seven entrees, including branzino, sea bass, roasted chicken, and a bone-in ribeye, ensure that most diners will find something that suits their preferences. Not only are the food options phenomenal, but they are also very affordable. With most appetizers priced at around $10 and no entree over $26, the prices are reasonable enough to draw people from surrounding areas like Humble and Atascocita.
The restaurant also offers a full selection of beer, wine, and cocktails. Combined with its expansive bar area and stylish look, Wholesome Kitchen should become both a happy hour favorite and a date night destination. Even the drinks are crafted with fresh fruit and vegetables. Both places are located on 250 Assay St. The only suburban feature of Wholesome Kitchen is its size: The restaurant seats 180 people comfortably. Otherwise, the restaurant’s industrial ceilings, white marble tables, and urban-style wooden panels screams “urban.” Wholesome Kitchen also features a wine wall.
Also after noticing the absence of Neapolitan pizza in the area, Theyen Hoang, one of the executive chefs at Wholesome Pies, crafted a menu including pizzas such as the sweet-and-spicy “Honeybee” and sausage-topped “Paid in Full.” A Vietnamese chef with training in French-inspired food, she has put her personal touch on everything from the menu to the décor and design. Working directly with the architect, Hoang chose floor-to-ceiling windows and white walls to give Wholesome Kitchen an inviting yet upscale atmosphere. On Hoang’s menu, along with classics like lemon herb roast chicken, she fused her French-inspired training with her Asian heritage to create dishes like Chilean sea bass with Thai curry risotto and Asian sticky ribs with ginger. “My mom [uses] a lot of Thai chilis and ginger, so I wanted to put a little touch of that in there,” she said.
